Oxygen Therapy FAQs

How does the AirPod increase oxygen in the body?

The AirPod creates a pressurised environment (up to 1.35 ATA) that safely and naturally increases the availability of oxygen that can be dissolved and carried in the blood plasma, not just red blood cells.

What does it feel like in the AirPod?

The experience is similar to an aeroplane take-off and landing when you feel slight pressure in your ears at the start and end of the AirPod session. This feeling is resolved by swallowing and yawning. The AirPod also has inbuilt safety features and three pressure settings to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for every client. Mild pressure (1.35 ATA) is far more pleasant than a traditional hyperbaric chamber and the AirPod will reach maximum pressure within 5 minutes.

Do you sit or lie down in the AirPod?

The AirPod is positioned horizontally (lying down).

Are electronic devices safe to use in the AirPod?

Yes! Smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices can all be used safely in the AirPod.

What do I wear in the AirPod?

It is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. We simply ask you to remove your footwear.

There is adequate space to sit upright or to lie down comfortably. Take a book or magazine into the AirPod, meditate, listen to music, type away on your laptop, tablet or smartphone or simply fall asleep.

Who is the AirPod not suitable for?

It is not suitable for pregnant people, those who experience claustrophobia and anyone experiencing a head cold or congestion. Should anyone have any pre-existing medical conditions, or be on prescribed medication, we recommend consulting your medical practitioner for clearance before experiencing the AirPod and mHBOT therapy.

Middle Ear Discomfort

When pressure is increasing at the start of the session, you might feel middle ear discomfort. The pressure change is similar to what we experience when flying, and there are ways to clear our ears such as yawning and swallowing. In addition, you can press the Ear Vent button to adjust to the changing pressure conditions. In the event that the ear discomfort does not cease, you are free to conclude the session. Please note there will be no refund so please ensure this is the right treatment for you.

Detoxification

If experiencing high toxicity, you may feel unwell after the session due to the release and removal of heavy metals from your system. If you feel unwell, have some water - this will assist with the cleansing process.

Breathing Techniques During Contrast Therapy

Breathing techniques can enhance the benefits of contrast therapy by promoting relaxation and helping manage the body's response to temperature changes.

  • Deep Breathing: Inhale deeply through your nose, filling your lungs completely, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. This helps calm the nervous system and can reduce the shock of cold exposure.
  • Box Breathing: This technique involves inhaling for a count of four, holding the breath for a count of four, exhaling for a count of four, and then holding the breath again for a count of four. Repeat this cycle to maintain a steady and relaxed breathing pattern.

You may notice that in your first few sessions it takes around 10-20 minutes to break a sweat for infrared sauna. This is because infrared saunas heat your body directly and raises your core temperature. As your body becomes more accustomed to raising your core temperature on a regular basis, your sweat will become more excessive and start sooner into your session.
